This July, The Theatre Centre is offering a FREE one-week workshop to explore how the internet and theatre can work together in new ways.
If you are between 15-19 years old and would like to learn more about digital technologies and how they can work with live performance to tell stories – this program is for you.
Location: The Theatre Centre, 1087 Queen St. W (Dovercourt Road)
Date: Monday July 25 – Friday July 29
Time: 10pm -2pm

Students will be lead by artist/educator Michael Wheeler in an exploration of what tools are available on online, what stories the participants are interested in telling, and how to tell them on the stage in new and exciting ways. Throughout the week, resident companies at The Theatre Centre will join the workshop giving participants a rare window into how cutting-edge artists are working with the newest technologies to create their work.
About the Theatre Centre:
The Theatre Centre is a registered charity located in the heart of Queen Street West in an intimate flexible 150-seat venue. Through a series of programs, The Theatre Centre provides artists – from a range of disciplines – with space, funding, mentorship, profile, and a sense of community in order to explore an idea and develop new approaches to performance creation. The Theatre Centre has been in existence for 31 years and has been an integral part of the West Queen West community for over 20 years.
About the Instructor:
Michael Wheeler is Co-Artistic Director of Praxis Theatre and Co-Curator of The Freefall Festival at The Theatre Centre. He is also editor of praxistheatre.com –rated Canada’s #1 Art and Culture Blog in the Canadian Blog Awards. He has directed numerous plays in Toronto and has trained as a director at The Tarragon Theatre and as an Artistic Producer with Volcano Theatre. As an arts educator, he has acted as the Program Co-ordinator for the SHOP! Program at The Canadian Stage Company, Education Director for Classical Theatre Project, and has directed several youth-generated original works for The Toronto Youth Theatre.
